Vino Matić Čapljina does not in fact originate in Čapljina, where its headquarters are located today ,or even in Trebižat, where the Matić family resides today. Its roots can be traced back to the hills of Bodenik, where the story of Matić wine began over 150 years ago, high above the fertile Trebižat river valley.
Ozrenko Matić, the sixth generation of the family, continues the legacy of viticulture started by his ancestor Ante in 1870. The original vineyard, planted by Ante during the Ottoman era, is still tended with care by Ozrenko today. He proudly states, “Nikola started, Ante continued, Marko accepted, Antun followed, Božo immortalized, and now it’s my turn.”
Bodenik’s hills now host modern plantations of Žilavka and Blatina, where Ozrenko, understanding the challenges ahead, planted 35,000 vines at 150 meters above sea level. Today, the winery produces 50,000 bottles of exquisite white and red wine.
Matić wine is crafted according to the highest standards, adhering to GLOBALGAP quality with organic fertilization, mechanical processing, and the use of natural wild yeasts, all without artificial fertilizers, herbicides, or additives. This dedication ensures that every bottle reflects the authentic taste and history of the Matić family’s craft.
