About the Herzegovina Wine Route
The Herzegovina Wine Route is a cultural route encompassing the ancient wine producing regions of Herzegovina, the southernmost part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, blessed with a Mediterranean climate and a demanding, yet highly rewarding karstic limestone soil.
From Ljubuški and Čitluk in western Herzegovina, across Mostar, Čapljina and Stolac in its central part, all the way to Trebinje in the southeast, the wine producers of the Herzegovina Wine Route have gained international recognition through the autochthonous Žilavka, Blatina, Vranac and Trnjak as well as numerous international
varieties.
Wineries are but the tip of the iceberg of the Herzegovina Wine Route, which also incorporates the region’s many natural attractions, multilayered cultural heritage, rich cuisine and a unique culture of hospitality.
Established in 2007 by the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Tourism Board as part of a project funded by the European Union, the Herzegovina Wine Route is managed by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosna and Herzegovina in cooperation with the cities/municipalities of Ljubuški, Čitluk, Mostar, Čapljina, Stolac and Trebinje with the support of the USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Turizam) project. The Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FTC B&H) is an independent, nongovernmental, nonpolitical and nonprofit public law organization of business associations and business companies on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with features aimed at development and improvement of economic relations between B&H and foreign economies.
In September 2022, the Herzegovina Wine Route was officially certified as a member of the Iter Vitis Cultura Route of the Council of Europe.
